Confusing causation with correlation. Perhaps if he visited another village he would display same symptoms. Causation can only be established under the most strict experimental conditions.

Bolstering Bo's answer; who says that traveling to the village is the cause of insanity? Maybe it's traveling that gets him off his rocker.
Confusing causation with correlation, that's one, but simply linking cause & effect is missing here.
