Claims are constantly being made, many of which are confusing, ambiguous, too general to be of value, exaggerated, unfalsifiable, and suggest a dichotomy when no such dichotomy exists. Good critical thinking requires a thorough understanding of the claim before attempting to determine its veracity. Good communication requires the ability to make clear, precise, explicit claims, or “strong” claims. The rules of reason in this book provide the framework for obtaining this understanding and ability.
This book / online course is about the the eleven rules of reason for making and evaluating claims. Each covered in detail in the book.

I posted a similar question recently about Justice Sotomayor and her claim that 100,000 children were in the hospital ill with Covid. Dr. Bo responded that this was a Confirmation Bias, which I agree with. In this case, Whoopi clearly processes things in a way that confirms her world view in which only skin color matters in racism. She was then reminded that Hitler killed millions of Jews and others because he wanted to create a master race of Aryans, so clearly racism is not limited to skin color. I agree with the prior answer that this is also a case of the definist fallacy. |
