Original Question

Person 1: Did you read the new reports from our intelligence agencies about how Russian spies are trying to feed misinformation to the president of the United States to help sew chaos and interfere in our election.

Person 2: Oh yeah? How come everyone is always worried about the Russians, did they forget that we are and have been for years up in the space station with them.

How come everyone is always worried about the Russians

begging the question. Everyone isn't always worried about the Russians. We can say this is hyperbole and avoid the fallacy, but this is still a problem in rational argumentation.

did they forget that we are and have been for years up in the space station with them.

I am not sure how to interpret this. The possibilities I see are

1) The Russians have cooperated with us in the past, so they can't not cooperate with us in the present or future.

2) The Russians cooperate with us on space endeavors, so they must cooperate with us on all other things.

3) ?

As for fallacies, perhaps fallacy of composition . It is being inferred that Russia as a whole is friendly to America because a part of Russia (the space program) is. Depending on what precisely is meant by the response, there are other problems with the reasoning including failure to allow for change or failure to differentiate among domains.

The answer to the question posed by Person 1 is either yes or no. Either you read it, or you didn't.

Do not get sucked into a discussion unless the subject is set forth with specificity.
