Appeal Moderation? or Other?

Original Question

The following is an excerpt from Sam Harris on the gun debate. I don't think it is any fallacy but a person I have just been talking to thinks it's an "Appeal to Moderation." Here it is:

Fantasists and zealots can be found on both sides of the debate over guns in America. On the one hand, many gun-rights advocates reject even the most sensible restrictions on the sale of weapons to the public. On the other, proponents of stricter gun laws often seem unable to understand why a good person would ever want ready access to a loaded firearm. Between these two extremes we must find grounds for a rational discussion about the problem of gun violence.

In my opinion, I think this is a very good argument and I don't think it has any fallacies.

Harris is warning us to avoid the Excluded Middle Fallacy, i.e., a False Dilemma.

No moderation fallacy. Harris isn't suggesting the solution is a compromise in the middle; he is suggesting the solution exists between the two extremes. Big difference.
