Everyday Irrationality: "We're still here, right?"

Don't go anywhere, I found more examples of Everyday Irrationality.

Nathan: I agree with everything written in that Harper letter. Freedom is speech is under threat, yet no one is paying attention. We don't need less of it, but more. If we censor 'offensiveness', it sets a dangerous precedent for further censorship of our thoughts and beliefs. Slowly, our human rights would be eroded.

Millicent: Sigh, another freeze peach absolutist. Here we go. First, the reason we want hate speech laws is to protect vulnerable groups that grow up in a culture of marginalisation, like Black people, the LGBT community, etc, from oppressive and exclusionary language. Secondly, other countries in Europe have adopted these measures - and they're still around, right? No draconian limits of speech there, right?

"We're still here, right?" is the key bit. This strikes me as Relative Privation. The fact that Europe hasn't collapsed into a series of authoritarian regimes as depicted in dystopian novels and films doesn't shore up her claim; as this is a worst-case scenario.
