Mask wearing in pandemic.

Original Question

Person 1: I hate seeing everyone with masks on!"

Person 2: "Why do you "hate" seeing people with masks on?"

Person 3: "I could care less about seeing people with masks on but when people tell me I need to wear one that’s where I have a problem"

Person2: "And why do you have a "problem" with that? People tell you that you have to wear pants and you don't have a problem with that."

Person 3: " They tell me a have to wear shoes and I don’t so why would I wear a mask? I’m not sick, my immune system is in good shape, I’m not around sick people, this mentally that I should change my behavior for safety is a bunch of bs. Next they will be telling you no skydiving because you might land on someone and kill them, I’m not going for the new normal my friend and there is nothing you can say that will ever change my mind about it haha."

Person 3 is just ignorant (not knowing of the facts), then they make a Slippery Slope argument.

"And why do you have a "problem" with that? People tell you that you have to wear pants and you don't have a problem with that."

People don't regularly object to wearing pants, shirts and other related items because they are considered normal elements of clothing, necessary to maintain some semblance of decency. Masks were specifically mandated during a viral pandemic where their benefits are not clear. Thus, person 2 makes a Faulty Comparison.

They tell me a have to wear shoes and I don’t so why would I wear a mask? I’m not sick, my immune system is in good shape, I’m not around sick people, this mentally that I should change my behavior for safety is a bunch of bs.

Except when you go out, you may face sick people who are asymptomatic! So here, we have Ignoratio elenchi because this person has woefully missed the point of wearing a mask in the first place.

Next they will be telling you no skydiving because you might land on someone and kill them, I’m not going for the new normal my friend and there is nothing you can say that will ever change my mind about it haha."

As Dr Bennett points out, Slippery Slope.
