The measurement argument against God

Original Question

Is this a sound argument?

1. Everything that exists can be measured
2. There is no way to measure God
3. Therefore, God does not exist

If there are any problems with this argument please suggest an improvement.

It is valid, but I would not argue that it is sound.


I think most theists would take issue with one or both premises, and I would not to attempt to defend those.

Let's examine the premises...


1. Everything that exists can be measured


Yes, but how do you propose we measure it? There are many dimensions of measurement and not all dimensions of measurement are empirical dimensions of measurement.


2. There is no way to measure God


False.  The object of God can be measured to a degree. This is the study of theology proper. Likewise, God could measure God.


3. Therefore, God does not exist


False. Since premise two fails, the argument isn't sound... You could say that God can never be fully understood by that which is not God, but you cannot say that there is no way to measure God.
