Original Question

Not a logical fallacy but I wondered if anyone had a name for this phenomenon of insight into the behaviour.

On YouTube it has been pointed out that any channel which has the word Truth in it seems to feature videos with fringe beliefs, conspiracies backed by no evidence, and a general lack of truth.

Is there a bait and switch fallacy......

Lie?

Maybe a form of gaslighting , sort of Trumpian like when Trump spurts out endless superlatives to construct a narrative opposite of reality.

It's just rhetoric.  No harm, no foul.

People put things on YouTube when they feel strongly about their topic, and it's hard to imagine they would make the effort, and then label or characterize their video as doubtful.

There's no doubt there are con-men, and they give themselves away with phrases like "trust me", and when they get to "The Truth" (capital "T"s), my guard-hairs erect.

Priming, I guess.

If you prime people with information (e.g. expose them with a stimulus such that they respond quicker to a subsequent stimulus) you can get them to associate things with each other, even if it may not be fully reasonable.

For instance, if I am X, and constantly refer to Y, I may become associated with it. For instance, when I think "Bo Bennett", I think "Logically Fallacious".

The intent to make people associate 'truth' with whatever story they're selling you, causing it to seem closer to reality - even if it's wildly off-base. The same reason why the alt-right call themselves "realists", or talk about "facts and logic" when their views are based on neither.

This is how I might put the logical form.

Elite's tell us X is true.

Therefore, anything but X is true.

My experience with this is that truth seeking means unlearning the mainstream, and learning or creating a new narrative. To them It feels like they are finally learning the true narrative for once, and they call it waking up from the dream like in the matrix. Which is why they say things like, "You are asleep sheeple, WAKE UP!"

This group of people that you are referring to share a core belief in which they base all of their reasoning upon. And that core belief is that at the heart of society lies a deception perpetuated by the elites who run and control our lives. The core belief is that anything mainstream like the media, schools, elites, politicians, experts, scientists, and so on lie, deceive and manipulate the masses for a nefarious agenda.

So the reasoning goes that anything which is the opposite of what the mainstream tells you must finally be the truth. Due to this, its one of the best ways to insure that you are wrong on every subject the majority of the time. Because the only possible time you might be right is when the experts are wrong. Instead of learning any kind of critical thinking skills, they just assume a distrust of anything mainstream, and so they have no real critical thinking methods to allow them to tell what is and isn't truth. They also utilize the word "critical thinking' too as to them critical thinking means discovering a new narrative that isn't the mainstream. There is no methodology that allows them to detect truths and falsehoods from the mainstream, or truths and falsehoods from conspiracy theory channels which is why they can be so tribal and one sided especially when you add the emotions of fear, distrust and paranoia into it.

I think these people are usually average Joes who are creative and want to create their own truths rather than be told what those before them have discovered. Because when you think about it we are a species that craves discovery and exploration, yet there is not much left to discover unless you are an Einstein with lots of resources. Or at least someone within society that has access to privileged opportunity. I think a lot of these people lack a higher education, have a need to belong to a group, feel outcasted or betrayed by society in some way and other mental issues.
